El Cerrito, CA (March 19, 2025) – A 50-year-old woman was hospitalized after suffering multiple foot fractures when a San Diego Metropolitan Transit System bus ran over her foot on University Avenue.
Incident Details: According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 4:54 p.m. on Thursday in the 6000 block of University Avenue. The 63-year-old bus driver had stopped along the south curb when the woman bent down to pick up a fallen water bottle near the rear right tire. As she leaned forward, another person attempted to pull her back, but her left foot remained in the street when the bus began moving, running over her foot.
The victim suffered multiple fractures and severe skin damage from the ankle down. She was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Accidents involving public transit raise questions about pedestrian safety, driver attentiveness, and potential liability. Investigators will likely assess whether the bus driver followed proper safety protocols and whether visibility issues contributed to the accident. If negligence is determined, the injured victim may have grounds for a personal injury claim to seek compensation for medical expenses and recovery.
I hope for a full recovery for the injured woman.
