Bryan Brahn Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Victoria Avenue in Ventura

Ventura, CA (March 19, 2025) – Bryan Brahn, 70, was killed earlier this month when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Victoria Avenue near Avocet Drive. The crash also resulted in the death of one of his dogs, while another, Bridget, survived with injuries.

Incident Details: According to the Ventura Police Department, the crash occurred around 7:25 p.m. on March 3 as Brahn, who was homeless, was crossing Victoria Avenue in a marked crosswalk near a Walmart. Witnesses reported that his cart fell over, and as he picked up his belongings in the dark, a driver with a green light struck him. Brahn died at the scene, along with his dog Serena. His surviving dog, Bridget, suffered pulmonary contusions and broken ribs but was later rescued by local animal welfare volunteers.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Fatal pedestrian crashes often raise concerns about visibility, right-of-way laws, and roadway safety. Investigators will likely review whether the intersection was well-lit and if additional pedestrian safety measures, such as improved signage or crossing signals, could prevent similar incidents. If negligence played a role, Brahn’s surviving family members may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Bryan Brahn.
