Driver Killed After Running Red Light at Union and East California in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA (June 10) — A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred early Monday morning in southeast Bakersfield. The crash took place at the intersection of Union Avenue and East California Avenue around 4 a.m., according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Incident Details: Police say a driver of a white sedan was heading eastbound on East California Avenue when they ran a red light and collided with a dark-colored SUV heading south on Union Avenue. The driver of the sedan died at the scene. The SUV driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash, including whether speed, impairment, or distraction were contributing factors.
