Armando Jose Gonzalez Killed in Hit-and-Run Accident with UPS Truck in Henderson County

Henderson County, NC (March 4, 2025) – A fatal hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of 59-year-old Armando Jose Gonzalez and led to felony charges against a United Parcel Service (UPS) driver, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP).

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 10 p.m. on Dana Road near Katie Drive when a UPS truck, driven by 24-year-old Blake Stewart Laughter, struck Gonzalez, who was walking in the roadway wearing dark clothing. Gonzalez had been pronounced dead.

Rather than stopping to render aid, authorities say Laughter left the scene, returned the UPS truck to the facility, went home, and made phone calls. He later returned to the crash site in a personal vehicle, accompanied by family members. Laughter was subsequently charged with felony hit-and-run, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on April 15.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Drivers involved in an accident have a duty to stop, render aid, and notify authorities. Failing to remain at the scene can escalate legal consequences. Investigators will also examine why Laughter hit Gonzalez. Investigators will examine traffic cameras, the black box of the UPS, and witness statements to reconstruct the accident scene.

If negligence is established, Gonzalez’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.

I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Armando Jose Gonzalez.
