Bakersfield, CA (June 3, 2024) – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a woman who tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident in late March. The victim was identified as 49-year-old Anita Cecilia Hinojosa of Bakersfield.
Incident Details: On March 29, 2024, at approximately 2:32 a.m., Bakersfield Police Department officers responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Hosking Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Ms. Hinojosa with severe injuries. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations by the Bakersfield Police Department indicated that a light-colored vehicle traveling northbound on the 7700 block of South Union Avenue struck Ms. Hinojosa while she was crossing eastbound. The vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene before police arrived.
Legal Implications: The hit-and-run nature of this incident adds a layer of complexity to the investigation, as authorities continue their search for the driver responsible. Hit-and-run offenses carry significant legal penalties, particularly when they result in a fatality. The Bakersfield Police Department is actively seeking information from witnesses and is likely reviewing traffic and surveillance footage from the area to identify the culprit. If the driver is found, the family of the victim could choose to pursue a wrongful death claim for their loss.
My thoughts are with Anita Hinojosa’s family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the drive responsible is brought to justice.
