Angelia Lamontagne, 48, Dies After Pedestrian Crash in Yuba City

Yuba City, California  (March 16, 2026) — A 48-year-old woman died Monday night after being struck by a vehicle in Yuba City, according to authorities.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Angelia Lamontagne of Sutter.

The collision occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Colusa Avenue and Stafford Way.

Incident Details: According to the Yuba City Police Department, officers responded to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash and found Lamontagne in the roadway suffering from critical injuries. Yuba City Fire Department personnel arrived shortly thereafter and initiated life-saving measures before transporting her to a local hospital.

Despite those efforts, Lamontagne was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities said the vehicle involved was a pickup truck traveling westbound on Colusa Avenue. The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Officials noted that the incident was not a hit-and-run, and there were no signs of impairment. The driver was not taken into custody. Witness statements indicated that Lamontagne had been on the center median before entering the roadway, where she was hit by the vehicle.

This collision marks the second fatal pedestrian crash at the same intersection within a three-week period, raising concerns about roadway safety in the area. Officials described the incident as a tragic accident, though the investigation remains ongoing.

Investigation: The Yuba City Police Department Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

In pedestrian collisions that occur at night, investigators often focus on visibility conditions, roadway lighting, and the actions of both the pedestrian and the driver leading up to the incident.

Authorities will likely evaluate whether the pedestrian was visible to approaching traffic, as well as the driver’s speed and attentiveness. Crash reconstruction may include analysis of impact location, debris patterns, and witness accounts to determine how the collision occurred.

Given that this is the second fatal incident at the same intersection in a short period of time, investigators and local officials may also examine whether roadway design, traffic flow, or lighting conditions contributed to the risk of pedestrian crashes in this area.

At this time, no citations or charges have been announced.

Legal Considerations: Pedestrian crashes can raise complex legal questions, especially when they happen outside marked crosswalks or at night. Under California law, drivers must exercise reasonable care to avoid hitting pedestrians, but pedestrians also have a duty to stay cautious when entering roadways. Determining liability often depends on visibility, timing, and whether each party acted reasonably under the circumstances.

Even in cases initially described as accidents, a thorough investigation may uncover contributing factors that affect liability.

Depending on the outcome of this investigation, Angelia’s family might have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim if negligence is proven to have contributed to the incident. This claim can help cover funeral and burial expenses, medical bills, lost wages, and the loss of companionship.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Angelia Lamontagne during this difficult time.
