Allen Yangkaou Lee Killed in Orange County Hit-and-Run Rollover Crash, Suspect at Large

Irvine, CA (May 9, 2024) — A tragic rollover crash in Irvine resulted in the death of a local grandfather, with the suspect still at large, according to the Irvine Police Department. The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Allen Yangkaou Lee.

Incident Overview: The crash occurred on May 9 at around 4:30 p.m. as Allen was driving northbound on Culver Drive towards Trabuco Road. As he passed through an intersection, a suspect in a beige Honda Civic made a right turn against a red light, prompting Allen to swerve abruptly to avoid a collision. This evasive action caused Allen to lose control of his vehicle, leading to a rollover crash. His car collided with the center median, a tree, and a light pole before coming to rest on its roof. The suspect did not stop and fled the scene. Allen was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries on May 13.

Investigation and Call for Witnesses: The Irvine Police Department is actively seeking the hit-and-run driver. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a 2008-2011 beige Honda Civic with unique racing-style decals on the lower doors and red material on the door handles. Dash cam video from Allen’s car has been instrumental in gathering evidence. Based on this information, the family of the deceased could choose to pursue a wrongful death claim if the suspect is found. Anyone with information about the crash or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Detective Christopher Ostrowski at 949-724-7047.

My condolences go out to the family and friends of Allen Yangkaou Lee during this incredibly difficult time. I hope that the suspect is quickly apprehended.
