Sacramento County, CA (February 25, 2025) – A 67-year-old man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run collision while crossing Watt Avenue near Quail Park Way.
Accident Details: The crash occurred just before 10 p.m. when the victim and a woman were walking across Watt Avenue. An unknown sedan traveling northbound struck the man and fled the scene without stopping. Emergency responders transported the victim to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The woman accompanying the victim was not injured.
Investigation: Authorities are actively investigating and searching for the driver responsible. Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle is urged to come forward.
Legal Considerations: California requires drivers to stop and render aid after a crash. Fleeing the scene of a fatal accident violates the legal duty of every driver to stop at the scene after being involved in an accident. Authorities may review traffic cameras and eyewitness reports to determine what happened. Were the pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk? Driver behavior, such as speeding, distraction, or impairment, are also important factors to consider.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.
