65-Year-Old Man Killed, Seven Injured in 12-Vehicle Crash in El Paso

El Paso, TX (May 9, 2025) — A 65-year-old man was killed and seven others injured in a massive 12-vehicle crash early Thursday morning on Transmountain Drive in West El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.

Incident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. on May 8 at the intersection of Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive and North Desert Road. According to police, Alfredo Campos, 28, was driving a Yellow Kenworth tow truck eastbound on Transmountain Drive, en route to assist a broken-down semi-truck, when he failed to stop at a red light.

The tow truck crashed into multiple vehicles stopped at the intersection, triggering a fiery multi-vehicle pileup that ultimately involved 12 vehicles. The 65-year-old passenger in the tow truck died at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family.

Seven other individuals, ranging in age from 30 to 55, were injured in the crash. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: El Paso police have not yet determined why Campos was unable to stop the vehicle. Investigators are reviewing potential contributing factors such as mechanical failure, speed, driver distraction, or impairment.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the surviving victims and the family of the deceased passenger may pursue personal injury or wrongful death claims to recover compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, emotional distress, and loss of income.
