Visalia, CA (May 3, 2025) – Police are searching for the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist in Visalia over the weekend.
Accident Details: The collision occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday on Akers Street, south of Judy Avenue. According to Visalia Police, a car struck a 53-year-old man who was riding a bicycle and then fled the scene before officers arrived.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries on Sunday morning. The driver has not been identified, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the Visalia Police Department Traffic Unit.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: In hit-and-run cases, investigators focus on gathering physical evidence from the crash site, collecting surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses, and speaking with any witnesses who may have seen the crash or the fleeing vehicle. And, fleeing the scene after causing a crash hinders the investigation into what happened.
Once the driver is located, they could face serious criminal charges. From a civil perspective, depending on what the investigation uncovers, the victim’s family may also be able to pursue a wrongful death claim to seek accountability.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this crash.
