Pedestrian Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash at Clifton Intersection

Clifton, NJ (March 12, 2025) – A 52-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning during a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Getty and Crooks Avenues. The collision, which involved at least five vehicles, caused significant damage and alarmed nearby residents.

Incident Overview: According to preliminary reports, the crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. when a 35-year-old woman driving a Chevy Trailblazer collided with at least four other vehicles, triggering a chain reaction that resulted in the pedestrian being hit.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Officials have not released the victim’s identity, which is pending notification from the family.

Witnesses described the impact as intense, with multiple cars left mangled. One black Honda sustained catastrophic front-end damage. The wreckage was extensive, with several vehicles pressed together and one black Honda sustaining severe damage, its front end torn off and airbags covered in blood.

First responders arrived within minutes and began extracting victims from the wreckage. Authorities have not yet confirmed how many others were injured.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Clifton Police Department is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash. Investigators are reviewing whether speeding, distracted driving, or other forms of negligence played a role. They are also examining the intersection’s safety, which some residents say has a history of collisions and reckless driving.

Residents noted that the intersection is notorious for accidents and reckless driving, raising concerns about traffic enforcement and roadway safety.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and financial losses.

I send my condolences to the family of the pedestrian and extend my best wishes for a prompt and full recovery to those injured.
