Alachua County, FL (June 15, 2025) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi-truck in a hit-and-run crash on southbound Interstate 75 near the Williston Road exit, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Sunday, June 15. Witnesses reported that the right side of a semi-truck—with a black cab and white trailer—struck a pedestrian walking along the southbound lanes of I-75, just north of Exit 382 (Williston Road). The driver of the semi did not stop and left the scene.
The victim, identified only as a 45-year-old Gainesville man, suffered fatal injuries. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family. The Florida Highway Patrol asks for the public’s help identifying the semi-truck and its driver.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation is ongoing, and authorities will focus on identifying the vehicle, gathering surveillance footage from traffic and toll cameras, and locating potential witnesses or truck dashcam footage.
Pending the investigation’s findings, the victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim once the driver is located. These claims can compensate for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and the loss of support.
My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased man.
