Aurora, IL (June 5, 2025) — A 19-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in a three-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck on Butterfield Road, according to Aurora police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. just east of Hedge Row Drive. Authorities say the teenager was driving a red Saturn SUV when it collided with a semi-truck. A third vehicle was also involved, and all three sustained significant damage.
The teen driver was extricated from his SUV by firefighters and transported to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:32 a.m. The driver of the semi and the third vehicle were also taken to hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed. The coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Authorities have not determined fault, but Chief Matt Thomas of the Aurora Police Department emphasized the risks of inattention and poor road conditions, particularly when sharing the road with large commercial vehicles.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators are actively investigating the crash and will examine speed, weather, driver behavior, braking failures, and lane movements to determine what caused the crash.
Pending the investigation’s outcome, the teen’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can compensate for funeral costs, emotional trauma, and the loss of future financial support.
My condolences go out to the loved ones of the young man.
