Multiple Injuries Reported After 18-Wheeler Strikes Ambulance on I-12 Near Walker

Walker, LA (September 18, 2025) – Several people were injured when a tractor-trailer collided with an Acadian ambulance and a fire truck on Interstate 12 eastbound near the Walker exit.

Accident Details: According to early reports, the incident happened around 7:00 a.m. while paramedics were responding to a medical emergency on the shoulder of I-12. A man experiencing chest pains had pulled his vehicle over, and medics were in the process of moving him into the ambulance when the crash occurred.

An 18-wheeler then struck the back of the ambulance and also hit a fire truck at the scene. One medic reportedly saw the truck approaching and shouted a warning moments before the collision.

Five people—including medics and the patient—were injured, and at least one lost consciousness briefly. All were transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Investigation: Police say the truck driver has given conflicting explanations for the crash, and charges are pending as investigators work to determine what happened.

In this case, Walker police will likely examine dashcam footage, roadway skid marks, and the truck’s event data recorder to understand speed, braking, and lane position seconds before impact.

Investigators may also analyze the driver’s logs, hours-of-service records, and cell phone data to see whether fatigue, distraction, or impairment contributed to the crash. Eyewitness accounts from medics and firefighters on the scene, as well as traffic camera video, can help reconstruct the crash. Preserving this evidence is critical, as commercial trucking companies often move quickly to protect their interests after a serious collision.

Legal Considerations: Drivers must exercise extreme caution around stopped emergency vehicles, carefully reducing speed and giving them extra space. This caution is essential to protect emergency responders working on or near the roadway and to allow them to do their jobs safely.

If evidence shows the truck driver was negligent, such as speeding, failing to maintain control, or ignoring “move over” laws, the injured medics and patient may have grounds to pursue personal injury claims. Such claims can seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. The trucking company may also bear responsibility if poor training, excessive schedules, or maintenance issues played a role.

Because these cases involve multiple injured parties and commercial insurance policies, they can become legally complex. Early evidence gathering, including photos, medical records, and vehicle data downloads, is often essential to protecting victims’ rights.

I send my sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery to the medics, patient, and others hurt in this crash.
