15-Year-Old Student Killed, Five Others Injured in Tragic Parking Lot Collision in Studio City

Studio City, CA (June 5, 2025) — A 15-year-old boy was killed and five others were injured Wednesday afternoon in a devastating collision during school pickup at Campbell Hall, a private school in the San Fernando Valley, according to Los Angeles authorities.

Incident Details: The crash occurred just after 3:00 p.m. in the rear parking lot of Campbell Hall, located at 4533 Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Los Angeles Fire Department officials say a green 2025 Rivian SUV struck the teenager as he was walking between vehicles. The student was pinned, possibly crushed, between the Rivian and a smaller white SUV. His father, who was with him at the time, witnessed the impact.

Emergency responders rushed both father and son to the hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead. Two other students and three adults sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. Aerial footage showed first responders erecting a canopy over the collision scene, indicating the severity of the incident.

Preliminary reports suggest the Rivian driver may have mistaken the accelerator for the brake, causing the SUV to surge forward at low speed during pickup, though investigators have not confirmed this.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Although the LAPD has called the incident a “tragic accident” and said no criminal charges are expected, the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities will likely examine whether driver error, vehicle safety systems, or other malfunctions contributed to the crash.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, the deceased young man’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim, while the injured parties may file personal injury claims. These lawsuits compensate victims and their families for medical and funeral costs, lost wages, property damage, emotional distress, and pain and suffering resulting from the accident.

I extend my condolences to the family of the deceased student and wish the injured parties a full recovery.
