13-Year-Old Bicyclist Critically Injured in SUV Collision at Antioch Intersection

Antioch, CA (August 4, 2025) — A teenage boy was hospitalized with significant injuries Monday evening after being struck by an SUV while riding his bicycle, according to the Antioch Police Department.

Incident Details: The collision occurred around 6:46 p.m. at the intersection of Lone Tree Way and Muirwood Drive. Police say officers witnessed a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 24-year-old man hit the 13-year-old cyclist. The impact reportedly knocked the boy unconscious, prompting officers to administer immediate medical aid. He was later airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. Investigators say the driver stayed at the scene, was cooperative, and is not suspected of speeding or driving under the influence.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities’ ongoing investigation will likely concentrate on several key aspects: right-of-way regulations, visibility conditions, and the driver’s level of attentiveness at the moment of impact. Investigators are expected to examine traffic signal data, assess sight lines, and determine if the driver had the opportunity to take evasive measures.

California law requires drivers to exercise due care when approaching bicyclists, particularly at intersections where crossing paths are likely.

Depending on the investigation’s outcome, the injured boy’s family might have grounds for a personal injury claim to recover damages for medical expenses, long-term care, and pain and suffering.

Our thoughts are with the young victim and his family as he continues to recover.
