Sacramento, CA (February 19, 2025) – A suspected DUI hit-and-run crash on Wednesday night, February 19, 2025, tragically claimed the life of 33-year-old Adrienne Keyana Johnson.
Accident Details: The Sacramento Police Department reported that 62-year-old Steven Joseph Read hit Johnson shortly before 8 p.m. near North B and Dos Rios Streets. Read then fled the scene. He was later apprehended and arrested approximately one mile away, near 5th and I Streets.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: It is unclear if there are any pending DUI or hit-and-run charges. Law enforcement will conduct a thorough investigation. Alcohol and drugs impair judgment, reaction time, coordination, and awareness, making it dangerous to operate a vehicle. An impaired driver may not see pedestrians, misjudge distances, or fail to stop in time to avoid a collision. When a driver flees the scene after hitting someone, they fail in their legal duty to remain at the scene of an accident and cooperate with law enforcement.
Authorities will review toxicology reports, surveillance and traffic camera footage, eyewitness statements, vehicle damage, forensic analysis, and GPS records to determine what happened.
Depending on the results of the investigation, Johnson’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit and seek compensation for funeral expenses, loss of support, and emotional suffering.
I offer my deepest condolences to Adrienne Keyana Johnson’s family and friends during this difficult time.
